210 - YogaFit Heart Openers and Backbends (W/S)

Lisa Greenbaum

This is a beautiful practice centered around our fourth chakra – anahata, which literally means "unstruck." Let’s rediscover the power of love, nurturing self-love through yoga as a way to open ourselves to the boundlessness of the love that surrounds us in this world, and ultimately oneness from Vedantic thought ("Pathways to Joy," Swami Vivekananda). This practice will focus on both deep hip openers and back extensions through a soft, flowing practice with meditation at its centre. Relax, breathe, and move with compassion in a workshop you don’t want to miss.

512 - Olympic Lifting: Benefits for the General Public (W/S)

David Rafuse

Olympic Lifting: Benefits for the General Public The missing link in mainstream fitness programming, from bodybuilding to monostructural endeavours, is the neuromuscular piece – in particular, the development of coordination, accuracy, agility, and balance. We can sum up these elements as 'technique.' Omitting them from training results in only partial fitness, partial expression of one’s genetic potential, and a decreased threshold of maximal capacity. Everything we do in life requires different degrees of muscle synchronization, balance, flexibility, and coordination as well as strength, speed, power, and metabolic development. Olympic weightlifting provides development in all these areas. We'll discuss how to properly and effectively employ these powerful, functional movements.
