3002 – Does That ‘Functional’ Exercise Improve Function? (L)

Carl Weston

The word “functional” is used to describe a multitude of different exercises, but what makes an exercise truly functional? Starting with functional anatomy and moving through client needs assessments, you will learn a simple but highly effective framework you can use to help design exercise programs that are really fun
and functional! This lecture goes far beyond a cookie-cutter approach, showing you how to analyze individual exercises and assess their application for a specific client. Once you have this foundational knowledge, critical analysis of exercise trends and technologies is made easier, allowing you to think and reason rather than just follow the herd, resulting in superior program design skill and greatly improved results for your clients.

3003 – The Role of Physical Activity and Hormonal Balance (L)

Robin Ball

Physical activity does more than just make you sweat, it creates more hormonal activity throughout our bodies that is responsible for more than those “feel good” endorphins. Hormones associated with memory, learning and attentiveness (ie. BDNF – Brain Derived
Neurotrophic Factor) can improve relationships, career opportunities and performance when there is focus on increasing these hormonal changes through exercise. Exercise can also increase different areas of the brain that also helps lead to hormonal increase. Move better to operate optimally.

3004 – Grow Beyond Trading Time for Money: How to Navigate the Journey from Fitness Coach to Business Owner (L)

Brady Johnson

Why do most coaches struggle so much in becoming successful business owners? Because they haven’t yet learned the skills, developed the systems, and built the team needed to continue getting (and keeping) new clients consistently each month.

And with good reason! It’s easy to get frustrated and feel overwhelmed when you’re trying to learn all the new skills required to grow a business, which requires significant financial investment (and sacrifices). The risk of getting it wrong is so great. Follow the right path and your business and income growth.

Choose the wrong path (or stumble along the way) and you’ll quickly find yourself working harder with longer hours than ever before while making less money than when you started!

Learning Objectives:
1. Develop a mindset change to go from an individual contributor trading time for money to business owner that gets paid for creating results.
2. Learn how to create a strategic plan for getting and keeping more clients every month.
3. Understand the system and process of hiring and developing quality coaches who care about serving clients as much as you do.

3005 – Consultation Excellence (L)

Ginette Biro & Mark Campbell

Learn the value of a top-notch consultation. These simple “magic” tools will help you set a higher standard with your clients from the very first meeting. This session will provide you with the ability to take a client from being a prospect to register within a single session. By learning how to ask the right questions you can discover what your client really wants and help them experience multifaceted results. Realizing the differences that make your client unique will allow you to create specificity in their program.

3006 – Schwinn® Cycling: The Magic Of The 3 C’s (W/S)

Janelle Veteri

The Magic of The 3 C’s: The 3 C’s are the secret behind every successful cycling instructor: Content, Connection, and Charisma. Take a deep dive into what makes an ordinary class extraordinary and learn trade secrets to take your class to the next level. This workshop is one you do not want to miss!

3007 – Hyper Activated Mobility: Should you Stabilize or Mobilize (W/S)

Chad Benson

Have you ever heard the phrase “proximal stability leads to distal mobility and strength?” Understanding this concept is essential to achieving effective movement. While mobility techniques are an important step in overcoming the diseases associated with automation, one major reason for lost mobility is poor stability. Adding more ROM on top of instability is dangerous, increasing the risk of injury, decreasing functional performance, and eventually causing chronic pain. In this hands-on and active seminar you’ll learn how to assess and correct (inhibit vs. activate) mobility deficits using two exceptionally impactful and portable tools: the Hyperice Sphere and Vyper.

3008 – Unlock Mobility with FMS Essential Exercises (W/S)

Michael Panarella

Having access to or restoring full range of motion in a movement pattern is the first step to being able to have control of that movement for exercise, sport or activity. Mobility is the essential foundation to establishing proper proprioceptive input to produce improved output for fundamental movements. FMS will provide unique solutions to improve mobility including: pattern based stretching, functional breathing, and core sequencing and activation exercises. Further addressing the movement patterns, we will discuss the role that both mobility and motor control solutions play in unlocking functional mobility required to restore movement. Be prepared for a hands-on experience to best understand these mobility exercise solutions.

4202 – Beauty & The Beast (L)

Tiffany Moffatt

From a young age, girls are socialized to believe that first and foremost their worth is measured by their beauty. By the time a girl reaches the age of 17, she will have been exposed to over 250,000 commercial messages telling her she is “too fat,” “too thin,” “too short,” “too tall,” and a myriad of other negative messaging from the media that plays heavily on her self-esteem and creates an obsessive concern among girls and women on outward appearance. The fitness industry is a by no means immune to this type of messaging and sees body shaming as “fair game” to attract new customers to its health clubs, magazine subscriptions or latest diet program. “Bikini ready” has become a household word and is the staple diet of spring “health” magazine covers. This “beast” of a movement is shadowing the confidence of women and girls, taking the joy out of fitness and making them to feel like they don’t measure up. They are dropping out of fitness programs and engaging in unhealthy and sometimes dangerous behaviours to achieve an impossible ideal. In this very visual and interactive lecture, let’s explore whether your messaging- be it polished marketing campaigns or motivational media posts-is enhancing or limiting women’s’ personal power, attracting or perhaps repelling your clientele with impossible ideals. Learn instead how to empower girls and women to redefine beauty and health.
